For the Quarter Ending June 2023

North America:

In June 2023, Amlodipine besylate prices experienced a 3.41% drop compared to levels seen in April. The US Manufacturing PMI (Purchasing Managers Index) declined to 46.3 in June from 48.4 in May and 47.1 in April, signaling reduced end consumer purchases. In response to the weakened market demand, traders and suppliers have lowered the price of Amlodipine Besylate to sell off existing inventory and maintain profitability. The Consumer Price Index (CPI), a gauge of inflation, saw a mere 0.2% increase in June, up from 0.1% in May. This reflects a slower pace of inflation in over two years, as the Federal Reserve aggressively raised interest rates to curb inflation. This tighter monetary policy dampened consumer demand, thereby exerting downward pressure on prices. Additionally, the US dollar gained strength against the Chinese yuan during the second quarter, leading to more affordable imports. This influx of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), including amlodipine besylate, bolstered the oversupply in the US market, further contributing to the downward price trend.

Asia Pacific:

The prices of Amlodipine besylate witnessed a 3.65% decline in June 2023 compared to levels observed in April. This trend can be attributed to multiple factors, including increased supply, waning demand, and reduced trade activity. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), China’s Manufacturing PMI settled at 49 in June, down from 48.8 in May and 49.2 in April, indicating a contraction in the manufacturing sector. The diminished production activity in the second quarter stems from weakened consumer demand, a drop in purchasing activity, and decreased new orders—a consequence of China’s post-pandemic slowdown. The ongoing disruptions in the supply chain due to the conflict in Ukraine contributed to an increase in supply within the Chinese domestic market, exerting downward pressure on prices. Furthermore, China’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), a pivotal gauge of inflation, remained steady year-on-year in June, in contrast to the 0.2% annual increase in May. This lack of inflationary pressure further explains the downward trajectory of Amlodipine besylate prices.

Europe:

In Germany, there was a 4.25% downward trajectory in Amlodipine Besylate prices during June, extending from the beginning of the second quarter. This price movement was driven by augmented supply, reduced downstream demand, and currency fluctuations. The strengthening of the euro against the US dollar increased the availability of amlodipine besylate in the German market through more affordable imports. Manufacturers, suppliers, and traders have been focusing on depleting their inventory, leading to a sustained decline in prices. Furthermore, the Manufacturing PMI dropped to 41 in June from 43.2 in May and 44.5 in April, indicating a contraction in the manufacturing sector, along with declining purchasing activity. The increased supply of generic versions of Amlodipine besylate due to relaxed regulations also played a role in driving prices lower. The German economy is grappling with elevated inflation and interest rate hikes by the European Central Bank, resulting in higher food and energy prices. This has eroded consumer purchasing power, contributing to the downward pressure on prices.
